Hi!

This is your College president, Mary Beth Del Balzo.

As we continue to adapt to the ever-changing situation brought on by the current Coronavirus pandemic, we want you to know that The College of Westchester – your College – is committed to allowing you to continue your education, uninterrupted, until this situation has passed.   At this point, no one on campus has tested positive for the coronavirus while you were on campus, nor since you left campus.  I am so glad to report that we continue to be corona-free.

New Return to Campus Date - April 13

  • You are probably wondering when you can come back on campus.  I promise to be in touch with you regularly to share updates.  At this point, we will not be coming back on campus on March 30 as originally planned.
  • We plan on extending virtual studies at this time with a hopeful campus return date of April 13, but that depends on what the state and local authorities tell us all.  You will hear from me weekly with updates.

Commencement August 11

  • We have moved Commencement from May 28 to August 11 at 2pm at the Westchester County Center.
  • We are aware that the state has designated the County Center as a temporary location if extra hospital beds are needed, but we are hopeful that this will be behind us by August.

Keeping the College Clean

  • Since you have left campus for virtual studies, we at CW have continued cleaning, and, in fact, are doing very deep cleaning.
  • In the hospital environment, it is called Terminal Cleaning, because it kills all germs and viruses, including the coronavirus.
  • We are using a hospital grade cleaning solution.
  • High touch surfaces such as student desks, light switches, hand rails, even walls are being specially targeted.
  • We are also vacuuming and shampooing carpets.
  • We are taking measures recommended by the Federal Center For Disease Control, which includes both cleaning and disinfecting to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

 About CW’s online college

  • As the only college in our region to have been recognized by Quality Matters for its excellence in online distance education, we are confident in our ability to temporarily transition your education to a fully online format. We also understand that, for you, the transition may be somewhat of a challenge but trust that you are finding that you can continue to learn in this temporary, new format.   I truly do believe that you will become an expert in online learning by the time we are back on campus.
  • Our move to fully online instruction was directed by State and local health authorities and authorized by the New York State Education Department as it has been for all of New York’s colleges, universities, and k-12 schools and we will continue to follow the guidance of these authorities as to when normal classes can resume.

Please be in touch with us

  • We know that this current situation may cause challenges for some of you and we are committed to being as flexible as possible to make this work. Should you have any questions, please know that you can reach out to your individual professors, contact The Learning Center, speak with your Advisor, or request a conversation with our Counselor. cw.edu/studentservicesdirectory
  • If you have friends or family members who you feel could benefit from a CW education, our college is up and running and our admissions counselors are taking virtual appointments every day.  Contact them by calling our VP of Enrollment Services, Matt Curtis at 914-831-0313, or the main admissions desk at 914-831-0200.  They can also click on this link to request an appointment; https://www.cw.edu/virtual
  • You can also write to me at president@cw.edu.
