First Generation College Student-Jennifer Lopez Moran

For over 100 years CW has graduated thousands of students who are now working on several companies in our area. CW student Jennifer hopes to be a successful professional inspiring other Latinos to pursue their dreams. That is the purpose of #FirstGenerationWeek, to celebrate and inspire students to pursue their dreams and obtain a college degree to improve the quality of their families. Here’s Jennifer’s story:

Who or what inspires you to get your degree and why?
My mom inspires me to get my degree because without her I would have never taken the initiative to be better and fight for a brighter future for not only myself... but my brother and my mom. She came here with nothing and I want to show her that she didn't leave everything she had for nothing.

How will earning your college degree change your life and the lives of your family members?
This degree will change my life and the life of my family members in ways that we have never seen before in any of my family. I am the first-ever generation to go to college and complete my degree and not only am I going to make everyone proud but I will fight to show everyone like me that it is possible. This degree will allow me to help my family financially and give encouragement to others with immigrant parents.

One day, you will be a first generation college graduate. Who do you hope your story will inspire?
I hope to inspire all first-generation Latinos who believe they can't make it due to their differences. I hope to show them that even the oddest of people can have brains and the attitude to push forward and be the best version of themselves possible.

What do you wish the College knew about you?
I wish the college knew that I am a fighter, not only for what I believe in but for what is right.
