CW Hosts Cybersecurity & Defense Competition for High School Students

The College of Westchester (CW) hosted its Cybersecurity & Defense Competition, bringing together high school teams from across the region for a hands-on exploration of cybersecurity and to mark the launch of CW’s new Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity.

The multi-phase competition began in November with team registration and online CW Cisco Academy workshops, followed by student-created presentations on “What is Cybersecurity?” Finalists advanced to an on-campus competition featuring applied challenges, including diagnosing a sabotaged laptop, analyzing DNS traffic in Wireshark, completing Packet Tracer cybersecurity and ethical hacking labs, and competing in a Cybersecurity & Defense Jeopardy round.

Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES – The Guardians earned first place and a $500 prize, followed byWhitePlains High School – Cyber Tigers in second place ($300) and Westhill High School – Vikings Viruses in third place ($200). An honorable mention was awarded to Ossining High School’s Cyber O Warriors. Cash prizeswere awarded to support school technology programs.

CW extends its gratitude to participating high school faculty, Dr. Jacqueline Shaw, Associate Professor in the School of Information Technology, and CW Warrior Cyber students for mentoring and guiding teams throughout the competition.
