The College of Westchester Launches New School of Human and Social Services and Public Health Degree Program

White Plains, NY The College of Westchester (CW) proudly announces the launch of its newest academic division—the School of Human and Social Services, led by Dr. Ann Rodier as Chair—and its latest career-focused program: a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, starting Online, Evening/Hybrid and Day classes in the Fall 2025. This timely new offering reinforces CW’s commitment to preparing students for high-impact, purpose-driven careers that support the health and well-being of individuals and communities locally and globally.

Why Public Health and Human Services Matter More Than Ever

Now more than ever, the fields of public health and human services play a vital role in building healthier, more equitable communities. From preventing disease and promoting wellness to supporting vulnerable populations and addressing systemic health disparities, these professions are essential to improving the quality of life for individuals and society at large.

At CW, the introduction of the Public Health degree reflects an understanding of the critical need for compassionate, skilled professionals who can address complex challenges such as healthcare access, behavioral health, and environmental hazards. These are not just jobs, they are missions that make a meaningful difference.

A Program Designed for Today’s Learners

The new BS in Public Health will be available in day, evening/hybrid, and fully online formats, making it accessible to traditional students, adult learners, and working professionals. Based on the strong interest already shown in CW’s existing Human Services degree, the college anticipates high demand for this new program as well.

Students in the program will gain hands-on experience, learn from expert faculty, and build practical skills in areas such as:

  • Health policy and program design
  • Community outreach and advocacy
  • Data analysis and public health research
  • Wellness promotion and prevention initiatives

Whether graduates go on to work in schools, hospitals, nonprofits, or government agencies, they’ll be equipped to help make an impact with initiatives that uplift communities and protect public health.

Strong Career Outlook in a Growing Field

Public health is a rapidly growing field driven by an increasing need to prevent disease, promote wellness, and address health disparities across communities. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of community health workers is projected to grow 13% from 2023 to 2033, much faster than the average for all occupations, due to greater emphasis on preventive care and health education (BLS, 2024). Similarly, health educators are expected to see a 7% increase over the same period as public and private organizations expand wellness programs to reduce healthcare costs and improve outcomes (BLS, 2024). In densely populated areas like New York City, the demand is especially high for professionals who can support behavioral health and environmental safety. These trends are amplified by an aging population, rising chronic disease rates, and a nationwide focus on health equity, making public health a vital and rewarding career path.

Built on Expertise and Vision

The launch of the Public Health degree and School of Human and Social Services would not have been possible without the vision and leadership of Dr. Erica Schacht, who spearheaded the program’s development through to approval. Her work, along with the contributions of Dr. Ann Rodier and the dedicated CW faculty, has shaped a curriculum that aligns with both industry needs and student success.

Earn a Degree That Makes a Meaningful Impact

At The College of Westchester, programs in Public Health and Human Services are designed for students who want to be part of the solution. Graduates will be prepared to support wellness, promote equity, and lead community-driven health initiatives. A degree from CW isn’t just about what you learn, it’s about the impact you’ll make.
