National Distance Learning Week - Karol Bonilla

CW celebrates National Distance Learning Week by recognizing our online students!

Karol Bonilla is the perfect example of persistence and resilience. People say that you don’t know how strong you are, until being strong is the only option you have. Karol is a true CW warrior and she completed her Associate Degree despite her circumstances.

Who or what inspires you to earn your degree at CW? Why?

My parents, my kids and my husband are the ones who inspired me to earn my degree at CW. I was studying at another university but had to drop out. I have multiple spinal issues and have had about 13 spinal surgeries, one that included having an internal morphine pump placed for the rest of my life to help with chronic pain. I knew how badly I wanted a degree as well as my parents. So I pushed through my pain and obtained my Associate Degree on June 02,2022. CW made that possible for me with their online classes. I was able to set a schedule and work at my own time at my own pace.

How will earning your college degree change your life and the lives of your family members?
I was the 1st out of 4 siblings to obtain my associates degree. To see how proud my parents, my kids and my husband were to see me walk on that stage as I walked to obtain my degree was priceless. I would do anything to make them proud. I also felt that as parents, we mold our children to be better people in the future. I did it mainly for them. By obtaining my degree, I will have better and bigger opportunities in a field that I love.

Who do you hope your story will inspire?
I hope that my story shows people that no matter what you go through you can make your dreams come through. With determination, love and hope everything is possible. Don’t let anything stop you from reaching your goals and dreams. Believe in yourself!

How has online learning influenced your opportunity to earn your degree? Would you have earned a degree if you were not able to attend online?
I don’t think I would’ve earned my degree if I wasn’t able to attend school online. My disability prevented me from doing a lot of things that other people can do, for example I can’t sit or stand for too long. Thanks to CW I am able to do my work from my bed on my laptop. I create my own schedule, which is not possible with a lot of schools. I am grateful and thankful for CW. CW made my dreams come true. They have the most amazing staff and the professors are amazing.
