How a Break From Email Can Boost Productivity

When asked how often they check their email each day, most people can’t even begin to estimate. Lots of us leave our inboxes open all day long. Yes, email messages are vital to communication, but the downside is that they can be a distraction, especially if we enable alerts and notifications that disrupt us through the day. Also, when miscommunications occur, it can lead to mental and emotional stress that can trickle into other areas of our day. The result: impaired productivity.

This article by Tom Gimbel for Fast Company talks about a company-wide experiment in which employees all set out of office replies for an entire workday. Spoiler alert: it was such a powerful, positive experience, it’s become a quarterly occurrence!
