Summer Explorations Academy
Students who participate in the CW Summer Explorations Academy program have the opportunity to take a close look at exploring different career opportunities, meet new friends, and earn 3 college credits! A summer college program with tangible career take-aways!

Summer Exploration Academy Cost Includes:
Students will have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits and will receive a textbook or other required material for the course. Students can choose one of the following course offerings:
MSC110 - Human Biology (2020 HS Graduates only)*
BUS203 - Principles of Management
GEN129 - Essentials of Public Speaking
MED111 – Healthcare Law & Ethics
CIS110 – Programming Logic
The thought of getting into and starting college can be an intimidating process for students. Students will receive information about how to apply to a college and are guided through the process. Students will learn interview prep questions and the importance of the college essay. There are opportunities everywhere for students to enhance their interests and skills. Students will take a personality quiz to help them understand career options that will best suit them. They will leave with a view of the possibilities ahead and a positive feeling about their future.
Students learn how the Medical Field is not just about taking care of patients. They get to experience how Business and Technology play a huge role in Health Care. The Simulation Center uses innovative teaching methods and clinical simulation technology to enhance teamwork and clinical skills. Students will participate in medical mannequin simulations programed through technology to give a close to live experience as to what happens in the Emergency, Operating, and Delivery Rooms. They provide simulation-based education to advance system-wide patient safety and awareness initiatives. Each college course taught in Summer Explorations Academy contains a cross-curriculum assignment that students will submit after their visit to Jacobi Medical.
Transportation from CW and back to CW and lunch for this day is included in the cost of the Summer Exploration Academy program.
The program seeks out two prominent business leaders in the community to be guest speakers. Finding out about their high school and college experience, their career discovery and path, and current goals.
Summer of 2018 CW had Swin Cash speak to our academy students. She shared with the students her experience growing up in Pittsburgh and her journey to UCONN and playing professional basketball for the NY Liberty to her current career working for MSG in broadcast and management. Our other guest speaker was the founder and director of the mentoring program, “Her Honor” founded by Nicole Sheindlin, in 2006 as an innovative and pragmatic way to boost self - confidence in young woman at the workplace and in everyday life. Summer of 2019 speakers are in the works!
At the conclusion of the program, the students get an opportunity to enjoy themselves with an outing to Rye Playland. This is a great opportunity to participate in some team building activities and enjoy the fun at Playland with newfound friends and Summer Exploration Academy classmates. All participating students in the program get a full day of entertainment with an all access pass to the parks attractions, rides, and a catered barbeque. Transportation from CW and back to CW, admission to the park, and the barbeque is included in the cost of the program.
