For pretty much all of us, stress and anxiety come up sometimes. Work and school are a few places you might notice it crop up. Rather than focusing on getting your stress level to zero (because let’s be honest—there are always going to be stressful or anxiety-provoking things that pop up), make an effort to deal with stressors and anxiety.

Scoring a job interview is exciting but can also be anxiety provoking. Whether this is your first-ever job interview or you’ve been on many before, it’s completely normal to feel nervous. Fortunately, having the support and resources you need to show up prepared can help you shine in your best light. The College of Westchester (CW) Career Services team provides guidance and support to students so they can approach those conversations calmly and with confidence—and ace the interview.

It might sound old-fashioned, but a career fair can be a great way to form new connections can score a job. Showing up is just one step, though. Researching which companies will be there and what opportunities are open, for example, are a few key steps. Preparing ahead of time and dressing for success can also have a powerful impact.

When you’re on the hunt for a new job, stamina is important—it can be a long process. It’s easy to become discouraged and lose steam, especially when things slow down or you don’t hear from a company you’ve applied to for a while and just feel like you’ll NEVER find something. Job search fatigue is a real thing, and there are some common things that can eat away at your stamina.

There’s nothing like the rush you get from completing a task. Have you ever noticed, though, how little you actually manage to cross off of that list, or how difficult it feels? We tend to underestimate the time, energy, or money it may take to complete a task. Maybe we’ve been trained to prioritize what’s urgent rather than what’s important, spending out day putting out little fires that don’t actually matters. 

Whether it happens face-to-face or behind a screen, communication is a part of any job. Even if you’re someone who prefers to keep their head down and avoid interaction, it’s still bound to come up, and having the communication skills you need help you form strong relationships and foster a positive work experience.  The good news is that these skills are actually pretty basic, such as treating others with respect and being an active listener.
