CW Celebrates Veterans Day

Thursday, November 12, 2015

On Veterans Day, Americans across the nation were honoring the sacrifices and service of the nation’s armed forces with parades, wreath-laying ceremonies and other events. The College of Westchester contributed to honor and thank our veterans during a ceremony organized by the Stars & Stripes Club. Veterans Day Celebration included the singing of the National Anthem by Ellen Segarra, and opening remarks by Nellie Capellan, Veterans Affairs at CW. During the ceremony attendees enjoyed inspirational words and anecdotes from CW’s Faculty, Staff, and Alumni:

“Accomplishments are easy for those who set goals. Establish a plan and make it happen.”

Prof. Justin Stone
U.S. Army

“Joining the military was a life-changing experience. We’re always soldiers, with and without a uniform. Thank you to my family for their support.”
Pedro Ceballos
U.S. Army

“When you join the military, you join a family because soldiers are family. But when you come back and you hear ‘welcome home,’ those words are really strong for us. I’m proud to be a soldier and proud to be a veteran. Instead of saying ‘thank you for your service,’ I tell you veterans, welcome home.”
Ju-Tais Bryant, U.S. Army

“I never regret the day I signed to join the Navy. When you love what you do, it’s not a job, it’s an adventure. I enjoyed my life in service very much.”
Rhona Thomas – U.S. Navy
