Karaishma Rai, College of Westchester Healthcare Services Administration major

It’s First-Generation week, and we continue our conversations with those students who are the first ones to graduate from college in their families. Here’s our conversation with Karaishma Rai, a Healthcare Services Administration major.

Who or what inspires you to earn your degree? Why?
Breaking generational challenges in limiting ourselves. My parents came to this country to provide me with opportunities they weren't granted, so I plan to go above and beyond no matter what.

How will earning your college degree change your life and the lives of your family members?
A better future and a chance to educate those around me of all the opportunities out there. Also, by creating a greater destiny and a name for myself.

One day, you will be a first-generation college graduate. Who do you hope your story will inspire?
Both the old and young family members around me. You're never too old to learn something new and take charge.
