Wed, 03/01/2017

As part of the celebrations to wrap up Black History Month, the National Association of Black Accountants’ club at CW, invited Michael Spencer to talk to our students, about his experience in the banking industry. Mr. Spencer is Vice President of Commercial Lending at TD Bank and has worked in residential and commercial banking in the Metro NY area for over 20 years.

Among several anecdotes of his professional background as a self-employed banker, Spencer discussed the “subprime mortgage crisis,” which was a nationwide banking emergency that contributed to the U.S. recession of 2007-2009. Both his professional career and academic preparation helped Spencer during those tough years as he holds a Master of Business Administration, “network is a big component… but also invest in yourself, invest in your education. That is the road to success.”

Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month in America, is an annual celebration of achievements by important people and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in the U.S. history.
