Wed, 06/15/2016

When thinking about pursuing a career in the medical field, many prospective students overlook medical assisting.

A medical assistant supports the work of physicians and other health professionals, usually in a clinic setting like a healthcare center or doctor’s private office. Duties range depending on location and the size of a facility, but may include administrative and clinical tasks such as recording patient history and health information, measuring vital signs, helping a physician with exams, administering injections and medications, preparing lab samples, and scheduling appointments.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, job outlook for medical assistants is expected to grow 23% from 2014-2024 (much faster than average). http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/medical-assistants.htm

Medical assistants can become certified through an accredited program like the one offered at The College of Westchester.  Check out our program to get started.  http://www.cw.edu/school-of-allied-health
