More High School Students Taking Online Courses

According this this New York Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/26/nyregion/online-summer-courses-attracting-college-bound-high-schoolers.html?_r=0 ) an increasing number of high school students are taking online college courses. Though MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) were originally intended for college-level work that would be available to anyone, college admissions teams are noting more and more prospective students are taking these courses.

For some students, these courses satisfy an interest in a topic not offered by their high school, whereas others take the courses in hopes it will increase their chances of getting into the elite colleges of their choice.

The article explores how colleges are adapting and students’ opinions on MOOCs in the context of the college application process.
