CW Achieves Two Milestones in One DayPosted on : March 19, 2008 | Posted By : Karen SmithIt gives me great pleasure to announce that on March 17, the New York State Board of Regents approved our Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree (BBA), officially making us a Bachelor Degree granting college. This is a significant achievement for the College and one that has been in the making for many years. Our ability to now grant the Bachelor’s degree will enhance the educational opportunities we provide students, all while remaining true to our mission to offer a curriculum that provides marketable skills and career-ready education. March 17, 2008 is certainly a day that will make CW’s history book because not only did we receive approval from the New York State Board of Regents to offer the BBA, but we also received from The Middle States Commission on Higher Education official confirmation that our grant of accreditation has been renewed for another ten years with the inclusion of our BBA program. This is truly an exciting time for the college. Such significant milestones are undeniable proof that we are committed to excellence. Our commitment and ongoing pursuit to meet the ever-changing needs of students and employers is what has made CW a quality institution since 1915. The College has served thousands of students, and these achievements will help us to serve thousands and thousands more on a whole new level.

Throughout its 90+ year history, CW has stayed true to its career-focused mission providing students with marketable skills for career success and providing employers with graduates ready for the real world. In that context, The College of Westchester has played a vital role in higher education and that has distinguished us from other schools in the region. When we began to plan the Bachelor’s program, nearly five years ago, it was important for us to develop a program that will serve both students and employers, all while staying true to the college’s mission. To ensure that we embarked upon the right path, the College enlisted the services of an independent research company who studied the emerging needs of employers not currently being met by other college graduates. This information was used to develop the Bachelor of Business Administration degree and validate its content. The research also revealed the true value of a BBA degree, which will enhance our graduates’ earning potential and long term career opportunities. The study also confirmed that our unique approach to instruction in the classroom is tantamount to that success. Almost 100% of our faculty members have real world experience that they bring to the classroom each day. We pride ourselves on our ability to continually evolve and to meet the ever-changing needs of students and employers, and the fact that we will not falter in our ability to provide high quality, practical, career-focused, collegiate education leading to exceptional graduate success and security is simply what we do. The College of Westchester’s Staff and Faculty are 100% committed to always providing students with superb “customer” service in a small and personal environment, even as we grow with the addition of this BBA program. This is an exciting time for the College, and I look forward to having a new rank of CW graduates benefit from all that a CW education has to offer. *pending New York State Department of Education approval Kindness and Generosity - No Better GiftPosted on : November 20, 2007 | Posted By : Karen SmithWe recently began a new tradition in our home called the “favor key”. We placed each family member’s name in a hat and drew out our eldest daughter’s name. She received the “favor key”. With that she was allowed to ask any of us for a small, basic favor. She asked her younger sister to clear her dinner dishes. Then in turn, her sister received the “favor key”. That enabled her to ask a favor of someone else in the family. The concept is not my idea, I got it from a terrific book entitled “The Connected Family”. The “favor key” is designed to show how good it is to give as well as receive. For children, this giving of yourself as well as receiving is a wonderful way to learn about kindness and how it impacts others. And it is a wonderful way to learn how it feels to be on the receiving end of another person’s generosity. I am certain, that the many, many children and families who are helped by the donations we make to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital feel that sense of generosity first hand. Over the past thirty years CW has raised over $100,000 for the hospital. In this way we give children “a blessing that counts, hope for the future.” Our success in fund raising is due to the generosity of our students, faculty, staff and the community. Just the other day, I drove by a church and a posted sign stated: “Do I Count My Blessings?” It really made me pause and be thankful. It’s so easy to lose sight of the little blessings we receive with the day to day hustle and bustle. This month (November 19- December 10) you can support the CW Scholarship Fund by either bidding on or promoting to others CW’s Scholarship Foundation through the online auction. All prizes were graciously donated by friends of CW. Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy holiday season!
