Cody had worked for a non-for-profit organization for the last 10 years. Her role was Program Director of a Middle School Afterschool Program and a high school Summer Youth Employment Program. Cody facilitated many college and career readiness presentations during her time working as a Program Director, which led Cody to her position at CW.

Cody graduated from Mercy College in the Bronx with a BS in Community Health in May of 2019. A cool fact about Cody is that she is a children’s party entertainer aka clown who knows how to paint faces and make balloon animals!

Alexis Penaloza started her journey with Higher Education as the Head Swim and Dive Coach for her alma mater Pace University. Her experience recruiting athletically lead her to find her position as CW’s High School and Community Relations Presenter.

She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a minor in Criminal Justice. Her hobbies include modeling/acting, coaching a youth swim team, and her personal favorite, “Netflix and Chill.”

 

NEW! Resume Writing in the 21st Century

Today’s hiring process has evolved way beyond emailing resumes to human resources offices. Students will learn to break down the sections of the resume and find out how to develop their very own! In addition, applicant tracking systems (ATS) information is shared, how companies use them to help streamline their recruitment processes and what that means when writing a resume. And so much more!

Finding Your Passion

Self-assessment can seem like an overwhelming task to some. Students will have the opportunity to begin to understanding their personality traits and if they follow their passion, how that plays into leading a more meaningful and satisfying life. Points of discussion will include the Holland Hexagon and Myers Briggs tests.

WOW Factor: Developing Your Personal Brand

What is YOUR personal brand saying about you? Students will explore what a personal brand is, and how their experience, organizational skills, communication skills, dependability, ability to be a team player, and personal appearance all build personal brand. Students will also discover types of verbal and non-verbal communication and how just body position and facial expressions can dictate how a message is received. Regardless of who you are, and what you are looking to do, you will have the skills and knowledge to be successful in any environment.

High School to College Transition

What are the major differences between high school and college? Students will learn the biggest changes that they will encounter as they transition from high school and college. Students will explore essential and fundamentally important time management techniques and why degree/major matters when looking for a career path. Students will also discover what the differences between a college match vs. a college fit are, and how you can find which college fits you and your needs best.

Smart Money Moves in College – Personal Finance & Credit

Popular with High School Educators, this presentation covers the critical aspects of personal finance, including students making an investment in themselves, as they become college students. The importance of saving and investing for their future, handling credit/debit cards, and understanding the components of their credit score are also covered.

Powerful Public Speaking & Presentation Skills

This seminar is designed to help students overcome their fear of speaking in public and take them to the next level of their presentation skills. Students will learn specific tools for improving their public speaking and presentation skills and will be given techniques to create effective PowerPoint slides. Proper positioning on-camera in the online environment will also be reviewed.
